Community Development

Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council, Inc. works with community organizations, not-for-profits, and businesses, helping to create a sense of community that is regional in nature.

Much of the eighteen-town service area, including all the villages, is within the New York City West-of-Hudson Watershed. This has a significant impact on housing, development, and business. We work with both local and regional chambers of commerce, county tourism promotion agencies, and county economic development departments to revitalize our rural communities.

WCCRC also prepares and submits grant applications on behalf of Townships and Villages within the service area. The funds, if awarded are used to rehabilitate homes having substandard conditions, because stable housing leads to stabilized communities.

Community Development Block Grant funding may also be applied for to perform upgrades to municipal water and sewer systems, and other types of municipal infrastructure projects. The award, when made, is to the municipality and the program is administered by WCCRC.
